Mapleton Receives Taichung City Government’s Low-Carbon Hotel Certification

Mapleton Motel successfully completed the Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau’s 2023 Low-Carbon Hotel Certification Guidance Program, officially earning the Taichung City Low-Carbon Hotel certification. This recognition not only acknowledges our efforts in maintaining an environmentally conscious accommodation environment and implementing energy-saving measures, but also reflects our ongoing commitment to reducing energy and resource consumption through everyday operations and moving toward more environmentally responsible hospitality.

Taichung City was the first city in Taiwan to introduce a low-carbon hotel certification program. Since 2014, the Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau has promoted this initiative through professional guidance and on-site assessments, helping accommodation providers make continuous improvements in equipment, operations, and management to achieve energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainable business practices.

Low-carbon hotel certification is more than a simple declaration of environmental commitment. It involves a structured assessment and improvement process that examines a hotel’s practical efforts in areas such as electricity and water conservation, heating and energy use, energy-efficient equipment, reducing single-use products, and minimizing waste. Hotels must undergo professional guidance, implement improvements, and meet the relevant standards before receiving certification.

In 2023, a total of 15 hotels in Taichung City received low-carbon hotel certification, and Mapleton Motel was proud to be among them. According to a survey conducted by the city government, the 15 certified hotels collectively reduced their carbon emissions from electricity consumption by 691.68 metric tons compared with the previous year. This reduction was equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration capacity of approximately eight Wenxin Forest Parks and resulted in electricity cost savings of approximately NT$5.62 million. These figures demonstrate that integrating energy-saving measures into everyday hospitality operations can deliver tangible environmental and economic benefits.

For the hospitality industry, sustainability is not a distant environmental slogan. It is reflected in the details of daily operations. From energy consumption and water management to reducing single-use products and minimizing waste, every seemingly small improvement can collectively lessen the environmental impact of accommodation services.
